Kirsten Langbo
Kirsten Langbo was a Norwegian children's writer, singer-songwriter, puppeteer, and entertainer who had entertained children across Norway for years. She started out as a writer for silly articles in the newspaper Drammens Tidende before becoming a children's entertainer. Kirsten later made appearances in the 1950s performing her own songs and told her childhood stories, like on a Norwegian radio show. Langbo even appeared in NRK television shows as a ventriloquist with hand puppets which she did later in her musical career. From 1978 onwards, she became a popular entertainer and toured across Norway doing her puppet shows and songs, with over eighty registered songs. In addition, to children's entertainment, she is also an author of many Norwegian books with her first one being Morn igjen which released in 1957. Kirsten Langbo could have performed on the Norwegian co-production of Sesame Street, Sesam Stasjon, performing alongside Hanne Dahle, Geir Borresen, Asmund Huser, and Christine Stoesen. But she was probably too occupied with her own entertainment career and probably never even heard of the show in the first place. All of her work paid off when she was awarded the Språklig samlings litteraturpris and Hadelandsprisen, whatever they are. Sadly, Kirsten's life came to an end for she died in Gran, Norway on the 18th of January 1996. It is too bad Langbo never did get to meet any other Norwegian puppeteers during her career, at least not to my knowledge. But she'll never be forgotten by people in Norway for entertaining children throughout the entire country with her puppet shows and songs. She may not have done Sesam Stasjon, but at least she had her own way of entertaining Norwegian children with puppets and music. Kirsten Langbo, you really knew how to put your skills at use from the start to the end of your career. Even though you never were an international Sesame Street performer, you've still entertained kids and won awards for that. I'm sure people will want to know more about you soon. Until then, farewell Kirsten. You're a kid at heart Langbo!
