Kenny Baker
Kenny Baker was a British dwarf actor and suit performer who was best known for performing R2-D2 in the Star Wars franchise (the first six films to be precise). Even though R2-D2 made appearances on both The Muppet Show and Sesame Street, he didn't perform the character. Kenny had however worked with Jim Henson in Labyrinth as one of the goblin corps, alongside other performers his size. Baker did R2-D2 alongside his performing partner Anthony Daniels who did C-3PO, which formed the legendary droid duo. I wonder if he had any difficulty seeing out of his droid like Daniels had with his droid, for working R2-D2 was complicated. In addition to Star Wars and Labyrinth, his other film credits include Time Bandits, The Elephant Man, Amadeus, The King and I, and many others. Kenny Baker also made appearances on many TV shows as different characters like on The Adventure Game, The Goodies, and Casualty, to name a few. But people always know him best for originating the role of R2-D2 and doing him in the first six Star Wars films, alternating with a remote-controlled version of the droid. His last film ever was being an R2-D2 consultant on the seventh Star Wars film. Sadly in 2016, Kenny died but fortunately R2-D2 was recast to other performers for the last two Star Wars films. Fans were probably heartbroken upon hearing Baker's death for they loved his work half of the iconic droid duo. I'm sure he is still watching from above and understanding that R2-D2 is in good hands. Plus, he did get to perform in a Creature Shop film under the direction of Jim Henson, and that's something people need to know about this guy, he did more than just Star Wars. Kenny Baker, you were a wonderful R2-D2 and you've done so well in all of the other films you got to perform in. Star Wars films may be over, but no one will ever forget your stardom from your portrayal. I'm sure lots of people understand that you did more than just perform a droid in a franchise. Farwell Kenny. "The force will be with you, always" Baker!
