Eka Vogelnik
Eka Vogelnik was a Slovene puppeteer, puppet maker, illustrator, designer, and director who was known for using of those qualities in her career. Throughout her career, she illustrated over 30 books, served as the artistic designer for over 30 theatre productions, and was the author of seven puppet shows and lots of film and TV productions. Eka should be one of those legendary puppeteers who made history, since it is very rare for a person to make history doing almost everything artistic in show business. Vogelnik has also made puppet animated films, mainly using stop-motion animation like Makalonca, A Tolar saved, Pearl Mountain, and The Forgotten Books of Our Grannies series. It's a shame there is no Slovenian co-production of Sesame Street, because she would've been perfect to be one of the performers. In the later years of her career, she mainly developed different types of puppets and teaching puppetry, something numerous masters of puppetry do. If only Eka Vogelnik would've done an international co-production of Sesame Street in her career, then she would get to experience the magic other international puppeteers did when working for Sesame Workshop. At least she made an impact to the Slovene community with all of the artistic skills she had and all of the contributions she did in the entertainment industry. Too bad it all came to an end, for in November 2024, she died. Lots of Slovenians were probably downhearted to hear the passing of Eka when that happened because made a difference to the community. I really hope that from heaven Vogelnik is watching her students practice their puppet skills she taught them. Despite never doing international Sesame Street, or probably never even hearing of the show, she entertained a whole of people anyway. She may be gone, but she's never forgotten by anyone. Eka Vogelnik, you've done marvelous illustrating, designing, puppeteering, directing, and puppet making in your life. I hope that someone will see you as their idol so they can carry on your skills. You never know if or when that will happen. Until then, rest in peace Eka. You've put smiles upon the Slovenes' faces Vogelnik!
