Richard Kuhlman

Richard Kuhlman is an actor, writer, director, and puppeteer who is best known for performing Cheshire Cat on Adventures in Wonderland. He probably received a lot of training from someone like the Chiodo Brothers to operate the puppet character, as they were the ones who made the puppets. Richard did get to meet two Muppet puppeteers on that show, John Lovelady and Mark Bryan Wilson, the former was Dormouse. Apart from Adventures in Wonderland, Kuhlman mostly acted on numerous films and TV series, and most of the roles he did were either minor or one-shot. It appears that Wonderland was the only project in which he was one of the main performers, not to mention the only one where he operated a puppet. Some of the films he did include Nether World, The Sender, The Last Time, and In the Hive, just to name a few. As for television, Richard Kuhlman appeared on Trust Me, The Building, Tales from the Darkside, and even lending his voice to an episode on Family Guy. At least he gave puppetry a shot when performing the Cheshire Cat, even if the character was performed in a chroma-key style. He also wrote and directed two shorts known as A Bit of Counseling and Bixby Gets a Ticket, as well as acting on both. Even though Richard only puppeteered on one series, it gave him the iconic character people witnessed throughout the series run. Kuhlman still gets interviewed about that role, as well as all of the other productions he did over the years in his career. He still should feel honored to have met Lovelady on Wonderland, even though technically they've rarely appeared together on a scene. It's not every day you get to meet a Muppet performer while working on a show you know. Richard Kuhlman, you're a talented actor and you were "the cat's meow" performing on Adventures in Wonderland. Keep up the great acting, as well as writing and directing so that your resume will continue to grow for years to come. Though your other television roles were small, your film roles have sometimes been larger than people expected. Such magical performances Richard. May you always wear a smile Kuhlman!
