Tau Bennett
Tau Bennett is a puppeteer who has been a Muppet performer on Sesame Street until 2022. He started his puppet career as a protégé of Kevin Clash. Tau's first meeting with Clash came from an invitation by Leslie Carrara-Rudolph, who he met in Atlanta and reminded him of Kevin Clash. Bennett's very first puppetry for Sesame Street was in the 2011 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade where he puppeteered Baby Bear. He even got to work with the Muppets at the 2016 Vulture Festival, puppeteering one of the Frackles in a demonstration. He must have been pretty lucky as a child, because no child has ever got a chance to meet the Muppet performers without the puppet. In October 2016, Tau Bennett got taught by Matt Vogel, Martin P. Robinson, and Peter Linz in a puppeteer workshop before joining Sesame Street during its 48th season as an assistant. His first speaking role was an AM audience member in a Season 50 episode before given the role of Tamir in 2020. Outside of Sesame Street, he's got his own troupe of surrealist puppet characters called The Rumble Ensemble and also puppeteered on both Helpsters and Donkey Hodie. Tau worked with other performers on Sesame Street such as Haley Jenkins, Kathleen Kim, Megan Piphus, and Austin M. Costello, to name a few. Bennett left the show following Season 52 and Tamir was recast to Bradley Freeman Jr., though it's unknown why he left. He probably started to get his own puppet dreams which made him want to leave Sesame Street. At least he's still getting lots of interviews for his work on Sesame Street. Tau Bennett you have had a great life as a kid and growing up you've accomplished your dream. It's not everyday someone takes you in as their protégé when their a child. Keep doing whatever it is you're doing now and you'll be happy to know that Tamir is currently in good hands. Excellent performance Tau. You've made a star out of yourself Bennett!
