Jonathan Frith

Jonathan Frith is an occasional puppeteer, folk musician, carpenter, and filmmaker; not to mention the son of designer Michael K. Frith. When he was only five years old, he became a member of the Muppet family when his father joined the Henson Company. Jonathan has been called a "Muppet Rat" because he spent many hours playing with the puppets and hangs out in the workshop and at photo shoots. Frith seems to be the first child ever to be literally close to the Muppets behind the scenes. He also provided the chorus in 2 Sesame Street albums, assisted on calendar shoots starring Miss Piggy, and puppeteered on both Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street floats in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He seems to have been quite the lucky kid to be a part of the Muppet family. When Jonathan Frith was 10 years old, he puppeteered a Pod Person in the background in The Dark Crystal (uncredited however) and cameoed at the age of 13 on the 1st episode of Fraggle Rock. When he was 17, he appeared onscreen once again in a home video called Wow, You're a Cartoonist! where he showed how to draw character bodies. He also did the arm of Kermit the Frog in close-ups when the frog was showing how cartoon animals are drawn. After that video, Jonathan left the Henson Company to do his own work as a freelance musician and singer. I read that Frith and Heather Henson both attended a design school in Rhode Island, which must be where he became good at designing. I wonder if he ever misses being a member of the Muppet family since leaving in 1988. I'm sure his father and stepmother Kathryn Mullen are proud of him for all the work he's doing outside right now. Jonathan Frith, if it wasn't for the Muppets, you wouldn't have been the busiest star you are to this current day. I hope you were still visiting the Henson Company in your free time. The workshop will be boring without you. Visit again soon Jonathan. Peace out Frith!
