Alistair Fullarton

Alistair Fullarton was a British puppeteer who was considered a pioneer of theater from the 1960's-70's, almost a whole decade. He puppeteered in Creature Shop productions with Henson, such as Labyrinth (puppeteering with Anthony Asbury and Rollie Krewson on Firey 5) and The Storyteller. Alistair's only non-Creature Shop work was on the Muppet special The Tale of Bunny Picnic. It's a shame Fullarton didn't do other projects with the Muppets, he was probably more interested in doing fantasy creatures and such. He at least got to perform with Muppet performers such as Brian Henson, Geoff Felix, Mike Quinn, and Michael Bayliss, to name a few. Outside of the Creature Shop, he puppeteered on many TV programmes in the UK like Spitting Image, Doctor Who, Button Moon, and Round the Bend (Series 1, his last show). Sadly, Alistair Fullarton died in 1988 right after doing either Button Moon or Round the Bend. But when he died, his collection of books was left to the Puppet Centre Trust's library. Not only that, but his Spitting Image colleagues have been involved with fundraising the "Friends of the Hackney Empire Theatre" refurbishment which he helped set up. Seems that Alistair was another puppeteer who set up a fundraiser and had a lot of friends to keep that alive even when he's dead. But I wonder what other kinds of theater shows Fullarton has worked on since he was considered a pioneer for a whole decade. I'm pretty sure that there have been plenty of shows which had him involved. Other performers he worked with include Ian Allen, John Thirtle, and Kay Bradshaw. Alistair Fullarton, even though you are gone, you're still considered a theater pioneer by your colleagues of Spitting Image. I just hope that people of the Puppet Centre Trust's library will read your book collection and share them to everyone across the UK. Just because someone is dead, that doesn't mean that they have to be forgotten. I'm sure you'll always be remembered for everything you've done Alistair. Rest in peace Fullarton!
