Matthew Brooks

Matt Brooks Puppetry
Matthew Brooks is a puppeteer and puppet builder who joined the Jim Henson Company in 1993. He built puppets for 3 films, Muppet Treasure Island, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, and Muppets from Space. Matthew also built puppets for many television series such as The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, The Animal Show, Bear in the Big Blue House, and Muppets Tonight. For the latter two, Brooks was also an additional performer, which means that he showed off both talents for the Muppets, Sesame Street, and the Henson Company. Outside of the Muppets, he has built and performed puppets on The Book of Pooh, Crank Yankers, Blue's Room, and It's a Big Big World. He later became a set dresser for Laika, Inc. for the animated films ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls and possibly more. Matthew Brooks seems to do a great job with building and performing the puppets for the shows he has worked on. He also had the chance to build at other puppet companies such as Shadow Character Design, Hairy Edge Productions, and Den Design Studio. He still works with the Henson Company on and off today as seen on his latest project The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Matthew is currently a visual artist as well, doing stop-motion animation at Laika, Inc. on a lot of their films like the ones mentioned above. Brooks should someday meet up with the Muppet performers again for the last time he talked with them was on The George Lucas Talk Show, a podcast. Other builders he worked with include Mary Brehmer, Eric Engelhardt, Kip Rathke, and Peter MacKennan, to name a few. He's probably going to continue being a visual artist and a puppet builder for the near future. Matthew Brooks, you did great with the Henson Company and you still are today. I hope you'll keep building puppets for future productions as well as remain with Laika, Inc. for any upcoming films. You were also given the chance to puppeteer with the Muppets as well. Until then, excellent production work Matthew. You're out of this world Brooks!
